Before the First Class

Creative Work

The aim of this series of the watercolor paintings is to show the relationship between animals and humans. In my painting, animals are being caged means they are being hurt. As we know, we often hurt animals, using them to gain benefits.  However, humans and animals are parts of nature. Both should be equal. If we harm animals too much, we may suffer same retribution as what we do for them. Also, many of our resources even come from animals, if they die out one day, humans cannot live any more. In my animals’ paintings, I try to express their hopelessness because of loss of freedom through their appearances or actions. And the colors at the background imply where they should have freedom to live.
In addition, there is also another implication in the painting of human with uniform behind the cage. In our daily life, people are busy at work and study. It is stressful but most of us have no choice. The stress from life, study and work is like being caged. They gradually lose their own thoughts, doing things under the order of others every day. Finally, they are like animals, losing their freedom, being caged.

Great piece of architecture

This is one of my favorite architecture, the Louvre Museum. It was composed mainly by geometry, especially triangle. I think triangle can express people the feeling of steady. By using in this case, it can help emphasis the the steady of the museum. Also, as the main material of the architecture, glass makes it look modern. At the same time, using glass makes the building environmental-friendly because the natural sunlight cam be the main light resource.

Original photograph

I love this photograph because of its composition. In the photograph, the tree is the nearest object, sand creates a strong vertical line almost from top to bottom. It is aligned with vertical third line on the left. it has strong color and texture. Therefore, it catches people's eyes first.  The right hand side is a road extending to the far. It is also a strong line with strong pale color. it leads the eye deeper into the scene and directly to the people on the path. The people are also in the "sweet spot" in the composition, at the intersection of the vertical and horizontal third's line. Although they are small, they are out in the open. All these things help us to notice them. They are not overwhelmed by the thick dark line of the tree on the left.
